Battle Ready Paint Standard

Our battle ready standard aims to ensure players experience a fun, atmospheric event.

Hammertime 2+ day events (GT’s, Teams, etc) follow the battle ready standard. Our local leagues and 1-day events do not

10 of your victory points come from your entire army meeting the battle ready standard. This includes:

  • Fully painted with at least 3 colours of paint (multiple levels of shading is acceptable)
  • A painted and/or improved base (eg tufts of grass, rocks, etc), if the model has a base

If a single model doesn’t meet this standard, you lose your 10 victory points *sad trombone*

Examples of battle ready…

This rhino was primed in black and lighted coated in grey. It does not meet the battle ready standard.

This grav tank’s paint is simple, but contains three colours. (The base isn’t pictured, but is painted). This meets our standards.

This terminator has three colours of paint and a scenic base. (A painted base is also just fine)

If you’re not sure if you’ll meet the standard, ask in the discord

What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG)

Our WYSIWYG’s policy strives to provide clarity for yourself and your opponent and minimize mistakes and confusion.

Our WYSIWYG policy:

“The model and the loadout of each model within each unit must clearly and easily be identifiable”.

However, we do not want someone cutting up their hobby project to catch up to the edition’s latest rules update.

Examples of WYSIWYG

All five witchseekers in this unit have flamers – matching the submitted list. (Even though some are kit-bashed flamers)

Only one witchseeker is actually holding a flamer – even though the list states all five have flamers. This would be acceptable if there are no other similar units in your army. We may ask you to use temporary markers (eg rubber bands) to mark your loadouts.

Some Venetari in this unit are equipped with a buckler & pistol and some are equipped with lances – matching what’s on the submitted list. This is WYSIWYG.

Proxies, Pkitbashing, and Pconversions

Here at hammertime we love seeing all the amazing creations the community cooks up in their hobbying kitchens. We broadly define two categories of stand in models:

Kitbashes / Conversions – An intentional conversion to make a custom model, theme, or just because you felt like it

Proxies – Using a stand-in model as a replacement for the real thing. For example, using a vanguard veteran with a jump pack as a proxy for an assault intercessor with a jump pack

In either case the same standards apply:

  • The base size needs to be the same
  • The silhouette needs to be reasonably similar
  • The model must be clearly distinguishable on the tabletop with no room for confusion
    • For example, don’t be proxying vanguard vets with jump packs and jumpack intercessors if you also have vanguard vets with jumps pack in your list
  • Get approval in the discord before the list submission deadline

We are more likely to approve a kitbash / conversion request than a proxy request. If you don’t get prior approval in the discord before the list submission deadline you run the risk of having your model removed from play…As of spring 2025, we still haven’t pulled a model from play, but don’t be the first…

Modifications

Modifications are straightforward changes to a model’s standard pose. The key takeaway is to avoid modelling for advantage. When changing up the pose of your model ensure the dimensions of your new pose remain similar to the original model. The most common one is removal of the pesky flight stands.

Unsure about your modifications? Ask in the discord here.

The venatari on the left was placed on a high base instead of a flight stand. This ensures it is a similar height to the original model height.

The venatari on the right was taken off the flight stand and glued directly to the base. It is now significantly shorter than the original height. A simple work around is measuring from the height of the original model. Or putting a little stick on your model temporarily. Make sure you communicate this to your opponent

Kitbashing spotlight

We love the creativity and talent behind kitbashing. Here are some examples of kitbashes that would be approved

This poor fellow started as a space marines dreadnought…

…before it was captured and corrupted into becoming converted into a world eaters dread.

…Yikes!

Or this guy who started life as an 8th edition dark apostle

And now joined the world eaters

I’m going to be honest here, I have no idea what this started as. Probably actual live raptors…

…which were tamed and are now played as drukhari boats (pronounced Kroo-khari).
